My Genea-Bloggers Group Games Last Lap

The games end tomorrow so it is time to summarise. The first lap went well and I managed to do some of the activities that have been postponed for a long time. The following week, priority was given to good friends from our time at Borneo in Malaysia in the mid 1980. We manage to meet almost yearly.

Earlier this week I was able to complete some "Reach Out & Perform Genealogical Acts of Kindness" activities. Joined five other genealogy blog network
s on Facebook Blog Networks.

Also completed the activity to assist another researcher with a research request. As a member of the Genealogy Society of Norway-DIS I assist new members to get started. This is an activity that I also would do without participating in these games.

The last activity completed was to join another historical society. Being a member of genealogical societies in New Zealand, Norway and Sweden and member of a local historical society in Norway I thought that was enough. But, what about joining the local historical society where I live? Well, they got a new member yesterday.

My final Genea-Blogging Group Games tally should then be:

2. Back Up Your Data
C, backed up all my data on two hard drives

3. Organise Your Research
D and E, scanned 20 photos and organised the files with name into folders

5. Reach Out & Perform Genealogical Acts of Kindness
A, commented on Brett Payne's blog that was new to me

B, joined other genea-blogger's network
D, assisted a new researcher to get started
F, joined my local history society, Sola Historielag

This should be one bronze, one silver and one diamond medal! Almost as expected. The medals and closing ceremonies are presented on Destination: Austin Family, August 25th, 2008.

I am very grateful for the genea-bloggers group initiative to arrange these games. What about similar local games in Norway next year? We will have to practise before the next GeneaOlympic!

We have already started thinking Vidar. Norwegian championship or maybe something else. Do you have ideas? Comments? Please feel free to pass them on to Laila or me.

Vidar, congratulations on your medals! I'm impressed with the extraordinary efforts put out by all the participants. A special thanks to Thomas, Miriam and Kathryn for their efforts organizing both the Genea-Bloggers group and these games. What a wonderful way to build community!

Moultrie Creek,

Yes, Miriam, Kathryn and Thomas did a great job. I am already looking forward to the winter games in two years time. Normally, we Norwegians do much better at winter games than summer games ;-)
